Mark Hoeler Technique Q and A Hours Rates Schedule a Lesson MarkHoeler.com |
The technique I teach,
Somatic Voicework© The LoVetri Method,
is based on function. I teach singers what chest voice, mix, and head voice (falsetto in males) are and how they might be used in their chosen style. Some styles are chest voice dominant. Some are head voice dominant. Most styles use both to varying degrees. A few styles separate the two to such an extent that only one is heard or felt. (eg. belting - chest, yodeling in country music - separates and alternates chest and falsetto) Some incorporate both, in what is referred to as a mix. Describing the sound of chest voice and head voice in print is inadequate. I demonstrate them for students so that they can recognize the function through the experience of hearing, feeling, and doing. Classical singing is, for the most part, a head voice dominant style. Dominant yes, but usually, not to the exclusion of chest voice. (Some high, light sopranos and most counter-tenors use head voice exclusively.) Most Contemporary styles are, for the most part, chest voice dominant styles. Dominant yes, but not to the exclusion of head voice (falsetto). I teach how to do them; belt when appropriate, mix when appropriate, use head voice when appropriate, and recognize the usefulness of each, depending on the style. I teach how to sing in a healthy way, with a healthy, functional, scientifically sound approach towards what you are trying to accomplish. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. All the best on your musical journey. Mark Hoeler |
